What Age Should You Start Training Your Puppy?
Learning is always going on, but you can begin formally training your puppy from the age of 9-12 weeks of age. Most schools, however, like for puppies to have at least two sets of vaccinations before allowing a puppy to begin a class, so you may have to wait until your puppy is closer to four months of age. You can still do some simple training with your pup at home.
Your puppy has already been learning lots of things from his mother, his littermates and his breeder. It's up to you to start teaching him what you want him to know, such as beginning housetraining and some basic obedience commands.
Proactive breeders will have introduced young pups to many things as part of their early socialization. They may have already had some early leash training on trips to the vet and some crate training.
Your puppy is able to learn like an adult dog at this young age, but remember to keep the lessons short.
