Go To Your Place

This is a very useful behavior for your dog to learn.

Wait until you see your dog heading for her bed and lying down (or the place you've chosen to be "her place.") CLICK! and mark her lying down there. Give her a reward. Name this command "Go To Your Place" or another name, such as "Place."

Repeat clicking and treating this behavior until your dog associates going to her "Place" with the reward. Do this every time you see your dog going to her "Place."

Reward when you ask for the behavior. (Your dog will probably begin offering this behavior frequently.) Begin asking for this behavior when your dog is doing other things. Reward. Practice.

It's great for your dog to know "Go To Your Place." For instance, you can use "Go To Your Place" instead of "Sit" when you are answering the door. "Place" is also great when you want your dog to stop barking or stop getting up on the kitchen counter. This is really a great behavior for your dog to know so she will stop doing other things and stay out of trouble!
